In gold leaching and mineral flotation:

1. It is an essential pH regulator for cyanide gold extraction. It maintains strong alkaline slurry environment, prevents sodium cyanide from decomposing into toxic hydrogen cyanide gas, and ensures smooth dissolution of gold into cyanide complex.

2. In sulfide ore flotation, it raises slurry alkalinity to depress pyrite and other gangue minerals, improving the purity of metal concentrate.

3. It modifies clay slime properties to optimize the fluidity of ore slurry.
